Architectural Design & Drafting
According to Architectural Design instructor, Kelly Billbrough, “this class is way more than just architectural design.” Students explore traditional drafting and computer aided drafting with the concepts used in both two and three-dimensional techniques. “We have all the latest equipment,” Billbrough says, adding, “Students quickly become CAD enthusiasts.”
Students work with other DCCTC programs to bring their designs to life. Two-dimensional images are transformed into reality with the aid of the CNC machine in the Carpentry class or the plasma cutter from the Machine Tool Technology class. Three-dimensional images can be created using the 3D printer located in the classroom allowing students to watch their drawings come to life in materials such as plastic, bamboo, metal, and glass.
Students also enjoy building scaled models with balsa wood such as the ¾ “scaled model of a two bedroom house. Ambitious students may venture into animation through software such as 3DS or Maya by Autodesk.
DCCTC Architecture students have the opportunity to compete in the SkillsUSA competition each year in Greenville and we celebrate their success! Cody Palfreyman brought home the gold medal in 2015 and then went on to compete in the National competition in Nashville. Angel Miller won silver in 2017 earning a scholarship.

Architectural Design I

With an emphasis on Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), students develop basic skills in sketching, drafting, and designing two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. This includes mechanical, multi-view and auxiliary view drawings as well as architectural floor plans, elevations and cross sections. Students who have an interest in architecture, engineering or computer graphics and who enjoy working on computers and using creativity to draw and design will enjoy this course.
Architectural Design II

Prerequisites: Architectural Design I

This advanced course is intended to develop the existing skills obtained in Architectural Design I. Students will earn additional experience with two and three-dimensional drafting and modeling as well as exposure to animation (time permitting). The knowledge and skills acquired will prepare students for entry level careers in drafting and/or postsecondary school.
